Schools Organisational Review

The wheels are turning and slowly the options for what will happen to schools in Lowestoft are being decided. The process is slow and, as you may have read in the press, very costly.

The Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth and Leiston clusters of schools are next and we are in the middle of a round of stakeholder meetings. These meetings should decide what options will be put forward to the public during the summer term 2008. Once these options have been consulted on, then the council will make their decisions about what education in Beccles will look like for the future.

This new consultation will not give the option to stay as we are are. It will not give the option to keep Middle Schools. It will only give options about which primary schools stay and get bigger, which high schools stay and get bigger and where the sixth form will be sited.

Please make your feelings heard when the consultation goes out.

March 2008

We have heard the news about the prefered options for Lowestoft. Some of the decisions were quite a shock with Pakefield Middle School being selected as the prefered site for the new high school and Carlton Colville moving onto the site of Gisleham Middle School. We are about to enter the consultation phase for Beccles and towards the end of March some options will be released to the stakeholders group. This will give an idea of the plans. If Beccles follows the lead of Lowestoft then maybe the middle school will become a primary school??

The next meeting for phase 2 of SOR (Beccles) is this week and the agenda suggests that we may be given some options for what we might look like in the future. If I am allowed to tell you any news I will put it on this page!!

I'm not allowed to tell you anything or I will be shot at dawn!!

All I can say is that I couldn't see Beccles Middle mentioned on any of the options???

I found out some interesting news today. If it is decided that Beccles Middle is to be no more then only the site which is built on can have housing put on. Therefore the whole field must stay as a field. So at least the local children will have somewhere to play!!!
